About Me
Oscar Vasilaras is a Sydney-based queer designer focusing on the use of bold silhouettes, strong textures and influence from the past to create new, innovative, androgynous and feminine fashion. As a designer, my intention is to create effeminate and androgynous fashion that attempts to gather influence from historic eras, comment on past political movements and explore my cultural heritage to ultimately express my own design philosophy and identity.
He integrates traditional techniques and art forms into his work, producing distinctive, timeless garments. He specialises in textile manipulation, building three-dimensional textures which infuses each garment with its own story. His pattern-making explores dramatic silhouettes and exaggerated proportions, challenging expectations of the natural female form. His aim is to create enduring, high-quality garments, using handmade textures and complex pattern making to produce personalised pieces. He integrates the creative anatomy of the past and present world around him to craft unique, contemporary garments with a rich design story.
